The story of one of the greatest events in the Deaf Community

In 1988, the Board of Trustees of Gallaudet University, the only university for Deaf people in the world, selected a hearing person as president of the university over two qualified Deaf people. The hearing person had no experience working with Deaf students, no knowledge of the Deaf Community, and no ASL skills to communicate with the Deaf students and staff. The Deaf Community responded with a cry heard around the world, "We want a Deaf President Now!"

During the next seven days, the Gallaudet students shut down the university until the hearing person resigned and the Board of Trustees appointed a Deaf person as president of the university, the 1st Deaf president in Gallaudet's history.

Triumph of the Spirit will bring readers back in time to 1988 and let them experience the tears, struggles, excitement, and joys, of the people who fought to make this historical event a success. Readers will LOVE this book.
